Data sources & licences
Last updated: 20 July 2026
Ingredo.app is built on open data. This page names our sources and the licences they carry.
Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts
Food product data comes from Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org) and cosmetics data from Open Beauty Facts (openbeautyfacts.org). Both are collaborative, open databases maintained by volunteers.
Their database contents are made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0: opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/. Individual product photographs are contributed under Creative Commons licences and remain the property of their contributors; where we display a product photograph it is served from Open Food Facts.
We hold a local mirror of their published data exports and promote individual products into our own database when a user scans them. We do not call their live API.
Community contributions
When a product is missing, users can photograph its label. We transcribe the ingredient list and create a community-contributed record, marked as unverified in the app. These records are always superseded if the product later appears in Open Food Facts or Open Beauty Facts.
Our own analysis
Ingredient risk flags, condition rules and scoring are our own work, built on cited sources. Each flag carries its citation and a rule version so our methodology stays auditable. Where an ingredient assessment is AI-generated and not yet reviewed, the app labels it as unverified and it can never produce a hard 'avoid' verdict.
Reuse
If you redistribute data you obtain from Ingredo.app that derives from Open Food Facts or Open Beauty Facts, the ODbL's attribution and share-alike terms apply to you as well. Contact us before building on our data commercially.
